Morning Thoughts:

A photographic portrait is a picture of someone who knows he is being photographed.

– Richard Avedon

He’s right you know. I was never impressed with him. His persona or his work!
It Is OUR Job as the Artist to make Our Subject/Client feel relaxed to be able to have a “Look” that conveys a part of their Personality.

That’s the Trick really. In the early days of Photography when the Current Technology was usually an Hour or Hour and Half for exposure time.
You had to get into a comfortable position and Not move. If you look closely at some of the images from those days. You can just barely make out that those chairs had braces to support the person’s head and arms.

In todays technology everyone has a camera in one form or another!
Whether it be a Phone Camera, a Mirror-less or a DSLR as Long as the
Image conveys “The Look”. The person’s personality that is good as well.
But!! If one doesn’t possess the “Skill” or even some of the skill of “Portraiture”.
Then making an attempt using a Phone Camera is Not Going to get Good Results. Are there good results from a Phone Camera? Yeah of course. But the average person results are all over the Internet and Social Media. What do YOU think?

It’s Much more than taking a “Click”. That’s why if you would Like something to Use on a Web Site. A Business Card or Publication. You Can Contact someone who has that Skill. Who has that Training to get the Job Done that you can be proud to show off.

That is a Portrait Artist.

Friday Night Photography Quote:

The element of discovery is very important. I don’t repeat myself well. I want and need that stimulus of walking forward from one new world to another. There is something demoralizing about going back to a place to retake pictures. You can no longer see your subjects in a fresh eye; you keep comparing them with the pictures you hold in your memory. [The] world was full of discoveries waiting to be made…(as a photographer) I could share the things I saw and learned…you would react to something all others might walk by.

I’ve been retired now 4 weeks and I’m already getting the itch to shoot.
My body needs to rest. I do realize that! It’s my mind that has the creative urge to shoot Portraits! Portraits is where my training is. All the others I’ve done from Landscapes to Wildlife. Those are a way to express myself and concentrate on composition and the artistic vision.

“Seeing” – To See the Image inside your head. To know and understand what the creative process tells you that you have something worthwhile in front of you to capture for all eternity. Don’t just Look! See It! Picture it! Understand what makes this Moment in Time different and special!

That takes a Life Long effort to understand. Everyone has a camera. It’s now too easy to take a shot or a selfie. The age Old Mystique of what a Photograph is and how to create an image? The majority of those in todays technology time. They don’t want to know. They ask if I buy this better equipment. Will it make my pictures look like that? The answer of course is to learn how to use and shoot like that. Their Answer:
“Oh that takes too much time and effort”!!

So everyone has a Camera or something that can function Like a Camera right?
Does this automatically make All of those People Photographic Artists?
It’s like me purchasing a More Expensive Word Processor App and expecting to be able to Write like a major Classic Author…. Why Not? LOL

It’s time! Spread the word. I’m Back!
