A Fast Snapshot

If you see something that moves you, and then snap it, you keep a moment.

Linda McCartney

When was the line crossed? A fast snapshot or an image that was created by patience and experience.

A fast phone snap created by a well educated experienced hand vs someone who thinks “Oh That’s Nice”?

Photography always had a mysterious cloud over it. One needed to study and learn all the facets that when combined will supposedly make a great image. In the days before the advent of Digital Photography and Social Media, if someone wanted an opinion of an image we needed to find someone who had this “Special Knowledge”. Then Hope beyond Hope that this image we hold up in high regard passes the criticism of the knowledgeable.

Making or Creating an Image with using the Medium and tools of Photography is a personal experience. If what you created is something that you’re proud of, but those who hold the “Real Knowledge” informs you that the image in question fails and starts to point out everything that is wrong with the image. Yes, it hurt! It Hurts big time! Think of when you were back in school and received a low grade on a test that you studied hard for! Did you turn around and say “The Teacher doesn’t know what they’re talking about”? This situation is part of the learning experience so we can learn how to do better.

Nothing in life is easy! Questioning oneself and always trying to be better no matter where your experience or education is.

A missed opportunity! I wanted to create a Formal Portrait of my friend above. He never had the time and our schedules never worked out. This was a fast “Snapshot”. It’s all I have now, just memories. Some of those are starting to fade as well. You see my friend passed away from Cancer 5 years ago today. We joked, we laughed! OK we laughed a lot! We worked together for more than 18 years.

Sometimes when we have a fast Snap and nothing else, maybe that’s all we need!

Rest In Peace my Friend

Mark
